Speaking at Data & AI Conference
Last week I had the opportunity to speak at the Data & AI Conference at the Umhlanga Richfield campus. It was a full circle moment from building automation systems for local businesses to standing on a stage sharing how AI can transform entire industries.

What I talked about
I shared real case studies: the Apple Zone 3D showcase (how AI-powered 3D models increase customer confidence) and the Elite Health Club chatbot (automating member bookings). The audience, mostly business owners and tech leads, resonated with the practical, no-fluff approach.
People I met
I connected with people who believed in my work early on. Their support gave me the courage to speak publicly. Also met fellow builders who are using Gemini and other models to solve everyday problems.
Lessons learned
- South African businesses are ready for AI they just need affordable, understandable solutions.
- Storytelling matters showing a live demo of the chatbot answering questions got more applause than any slide.
- Imposter syndrome is real but stepping on stage kills it.
What is next
I am planning a series of AI workshops for local businesses. Stay tuned.
