WIN or LOSE, You Can Still Be a Hero – My MICT SETA Hackathon Journey

I walked into the MICT SETA Hackathon not knowing what to expect. I left with more than code, I left with conviction.

WIN or LOSE, You Can Still Be a Hero – My MICT SETA Hackathon Journey

WIN or LOSE, you can still be a hero if you just choose to be BRAVE.

That sentence kept echoing in my head as I packed my bag the night before the MICT SETA Hackathon. I did not know if I would win. I did not even know if my idea was strong enough. But I knew one thing: I had to show up.

And so I did.

The experience

Walking into the Moses Kotane Institute in Durban, surrounded by developers, designers, and dreamers, all of us with laptops, coffee, and nervous energy, I felt something shift. This was not just a competition. It was a collision of possibilities.

We built, we broke, we fixed, we laughed, we nearly cried over merge conflicts. But more than the code, I saw people:

  • Mentors who stayed late to help debug logic.
  • Organizers who made sure no one felt lost.
  • Fellow hackers who shared resources without hesitation.

It was inspiring to witness the level of talent and the commitment to developing future innovators.

You can genuinely feel that there are people who want to see the youth grow, not just by words, but through real action and opportunities like this.

Gratitude

Thank you to the organizers, the team at the Moses Kotane Institute, and everyone involved for the hospitality and for creating an environment where we could challenge ourselves and push our limits.

Thank you to MICT SETA, the Durban innovation community, and every sponsor who made this possible.

This experience reminded me that the journey matters just as much as the outcome.

What is next

The year is still at its early stages and with everything I have learned, there is more to come.

I did not walk away with a trophy, but I walked away with clarity, confidence, and a network of people who genuinely care about building the future.

And that, to me, is winning.

Until the next one

Thank you.
